Common Fields

The common fields section at the top of the Add Litter form is the same for all three types of litters except that the wean date gets disabled for unweaned and neonatal litters. The entered values apply to all pups of this litter. After selecting a mother and father from the suggested values, their cage will be set to the current one but can be changed. The litter date is also stored as birth date on pups. When selecting a common genotype in this section, it gets preselected for all pups but can also be set individually in the pup section below.

tip

You don’t have to add all pups at once. If you add another litter for the same mother and litter date, the pups are combined with the previously entered litter.

Weaned Litter

The type of litter determines which fields need to be filled in the pups section. For weaned pups, fill out the tag, ear punch, sex, and cage. The genotype is optional. In the example below, we add 4 pups. We put the 2 males into the empty cage 22 and the two females into a different empty cage 23. The cage field suggests empty cages with the lowest cage number first followed by cages with the least number of mice next. If there are more than 8 pups, click the green Add Row button at the bottom.

Unweaned Litter

For an unweaned litter, we only need to fill out the sex and optionally the ear punch. Since the pups stay with the mother, there is no cage field.

Neonatal Litter

When adding a neonatal litter, you simply enter the number of pups or click the up and down buttons on the right side of the entry field.
